Growing up in the Catholic Church, I had an understanding of who God was, and as a young boy I felt a personal relationship
with Christ as a friend and constant companion to Whom I spoke regularly. By the time I was twelve years old, I had come to
question Catholicism as the one true Church. It was time for my Confirmation; I explained to my Mother that I did not know
if Catholicism was right for me and I was not willing to confirm my commitment to a Church I was not sure of when I had
never even been to another church.
In my early teen years, I discovered girls and started a fervent pursuit of the fairer sex for many years to come. During
this time I also discovered alcohol and drugs. I had spiraled down into a world of drugs, drinking and casual sex with
multiple partners. This continued for a few years until I was twenty years old.
One night, approaching my twenty-first birthday, I went to a girlfriend’s house after work. It was around three in the
morning and I would usually go to her house after work and enter her backyard through the gate. I would knock on her
bedroom window and we would sit out by the pool and hang out. This night was different.
Arriving at her window, I could see that she was asleep in her bed and she had left the window open and the television on.
I was debating if I should wake her up or not and began to notice that the man on the television, a TV evangelist whose
name I never knew, was talking directly to me. He spoke of everything that was going
